Real-World Impact

Climate-Friendly Robusta Coffee Production in Tanzania

In a powerful demonstration of what collaboration between sustainability pioneers can achieve, 4C, Meo Carbon Solutions, GRAS, and local partners joined forces to help smallholder Robusta coffee producers in Tanzania cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and build long-term climate resilience. This joint initiative, co-financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through DEG Impulse and JDE Peet’s, demonstrates how sustainability can be integrated into global supply chains through science-based solutions and inclusive partnerships.

Key Achievements:

22% GHG reduction achieved by 2024
Through better agricultural practices, more efficient transportation and reduction of plastic packaging.
8,000+ farmers trained in climate-smart agriculture
With 44 demo plots and a locally adapted curriculum.
320,000+ shade trees distributed for carbon capture
Income diversification and better farm microclimates.

As per 4C Carbon Footprint Add-On, aligned with scientific standards GHG protocol, ISO, SBTi & IPCC standards.
